It’s not a true Halloween unless there are Popcorn Balls. Cat lovers go all out and make creative cat Halloween Popcorn Balls. Many say even with the same basic ingredients, somehow they even taste better.
The ingredients five quarts of popped popcorn one cup of sugar, one cup of light corn syrup, one package of orange jell-o, popsicle sticks, spice drops for nose and eyes, thin licorice stick for mouth and whiskers and large candy corn for ears.
Make jell-o according to package directions, add sugar and corn syrup. Pop up the popcorn as well.
Since the syrup mixture tends to be very hot, grease your hands with plenty of butter before handling the popcorn. The syrup mixture is very hot to handle and could burn easily. I grease up my hands with lots of margarine before handling the popcorn.
Form the popcorn balls very lickedy-split. .
Press a Popsicle stick into each ball.
Cut spice drops in half and push in popcorn ball to form eyes and nose.
Press in licorice thin licorice sticks for mouth and whiskers.
Push in large candy corn for ears on top of the head.
Place finished balls into a baggie or in saran wrap
Tie a Halloween craft ribbon around the plastic wrap and the Popsicle stick --for a festive touch and also to seal in freshness).
You can also use marshmallows cut in half or cake decorations to form the facial features and use toothpicks for the whiskers. There are many alternate ways to make cat popcorn balls and year after year, they are a favorite.
Children lke to pack them in their lunches and they are also hits at the office.
