Valentine’s Day is not the only event for which crafters can make heart themed cards. For instance, you can make a friend a heart themed card any time of the year to show him or her how much you care, or you can even make one for your significant other as an anniversary surprise. Anyone can buy a romantic anniversary card at the store, but very few people have the ingenuity and forethought to make one on their own.
Some card makers prefer to use scrapbooking die cuts, stamps, and stickers, but the card pictured in this article was illustrated with a pencil sketch. People who love to draw and save money will appreciate being able to sketch directly on their handmade cards, but you can always use scrapbooking supplies if you prefer.
So how can you make the handmade card for this project? Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half, and then fold it in half again to create a quarter-fold card. If you want to be extremely thrifty and recycle, you can even use old computer paper to fashion the quarter-fold card. Just make sure the blank side of the paper is facing up when you fold the paper in half, and then into a quarter because it is difficult to draw on paper that is already printed on.
The illustration for this card was inspired by a planted palm tree and a sunset the artist spotted on a walk, but a heart was used in lieu of the sun in this sketch. Colored pencils were used to shade in the illustration on this card, but crayons or oil pastels would also be vibrant mediums to use instead. Take a look at the slide show and the video to get more ideas on how to make your own heart themed cards.
