About Skylar and Hi SKY by Skylar

Hailing from Makiki, 11-year-old Skylar is an outgoing, dynamic, big-heartedyoung lady who has three qualifying medical conditions that make her eligible for a wish. In her short life, she has endured countless extended stays in various hospitals. While facing these overwhelming medical conditions, she has captured the hearts and minds of her doctors and nurses alike.

Due to her recent lupus diagnosis, Skylar must wear a hat at all times including while indoors. Actually, her elementary school made a special uniform exception to allow her to wear a hat in class while following her stringent medical protocol. This got precocious Skylar thinking. What are the benefits of sun safety? How could she change its perception within our community and for kids everywhere? The answer was simple. As a result, her wish to create a fashionable, sun-safe hat and educate other children in Hawaii about the benefits of sun safety has become a real passion.

In order to bring Skylar’s wish to life, Make-A-Wish® Hawaii partnered with various local organizations who graciously donated their time and talent to the cause of helping her create a sun safe hat for kids.

Following Skylar’s inspiration, the SIFE Team at Hawaii Pacific University assisted Skylar with writing a small business plan. The creative team at Wall-to-Wall Studios worked with Skylar to develop a brand concept and logo for her stunning, sun-safe hat creations. The Hawaii Fashion Incubator helped connect Skylar with leaders in the fashion industry and let her experience the world of fashion first-hand. To her, designing hats, creating a business plan, a company logo and footprint in the Honolulu community has been a source of constant excitement and creative self-expression for her.

Dreams do come true for local kids just like Skylar.

Let Skylar inspire you to make a lasting difference in the lives of our local wish children currently waiting to have their one true wish granted. Find out how you can share the power of a wish®.
