Make a Valentine birthday card out of a cereal box

Save money on purchasing card stock by opting to make a Valentine birthday card out of card board from a cereal box.  It might sound a little strange to make a birthday card for Valentine's Day, but this might be the perfect solution for a friend who has a birthday around this holiday.  If you are going to make cards out of card board from a cereal box, acrylic paint is an easy way to cover up the imagery on the front of the box.

People who like to use acrylics will enjoy painting on card board as this is a solid medium that will not leak.  Not only is acrylic paint affordable since it is sold in small plastic bottles for about a dollar a piece at crafting stores such as Joann Fabric and Craft Stores, but it also dries quickly.  It is advisable to use acrylic paint in a well-ventilated spot, preferably outside on a patio table that is covered with newspaper to prevent spills.

You know those advertising fliers you get in the mail that you feel guilty about throwing away into the landfills?  These advertising fliers can also be used to protect tables when painting or working on messy crafting projects. Since acrylic paint is relatively cheap, parents need not worry about their kids wasting a little bit of the product when they paint pictures on handmade cards.  Budget crafting is about saving money when it comes to making cards, so there is nothing wrong with using the card board from a cereal box.

So how can you come up with an illustration for a birthday Valentine themed card?  One idea is to paint a picture of a heart and a cupcake topped with a candle, as was done with the original artwork on the card pictured in this article.  However, make sure you come up with your own designs as you do not want to copy someone else because that is considered plagiarism.  A Valentine birthday theme is not challenging to create as objects such as hearts and birthday cupcakes are simple to paint.  The slide show and video will provide you will more inspiration for creating your own handmade cards.
