Make a family new year's resolution to be safe (include tips)

This year, make a family resolution to ‘Be Safe!’ when it comes to traffic safety. Learning, teaching and exercising proper traffic safety skills is everyone’s responsibility, and together as a family your readers can make an impact in the lives of their loved ones and community members.

Chuggington, a favorite show of many kiddos, partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to create the ‘Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe!’ campaign, a compelling traffic safety program that provides families with important traffic safety resources that kids will want to check out!

To date, more than 270,000 children nationwide have taken the pledge to ‘Be Safe!’ by promising to always buckle their seatbelt, wear a helmet when riding their bike and only cross the street with an adult.

Here are a few traffic safety tips to include in your resolution to ‘Be Safe’ as a family this year:

  • Always walk on a sidewalk, if there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic (and put kids on the side of you furthest from cars).
  • Insist that children of all ages wear a helmet while biking and using a scooter. Make it a rule: No helmet, no riding.
  • Before you install a car seat, read the instructions that came with your car seat. Also read the car owner’s manual. Make sure the seat you are using is appropriate for the AGE, HEIGHT and WEIGHT of your child. Don't move them up before they're ready. Check your state laws to see the requirements where you live too!
  • Always fasten your baby in the car seat before covering with blankets.
