Raleigh Egypt will officially name Major Wright as their new head football coach, after they get the approval of Memphis City Schools Human Resources Raleigh Egypt Principal Michael Bailey confirmed.
After being let go by Briarcrest where just completed his sixth season last month, Wright has a new destination.
He replaces James Dotson who stepped down due to health concerns.
The Pharaohs went 1-9 in 2013 and haven't had a winning season since going 7-5 in 2004.
Wright is known as one of the best offensive minds in the Bluff City and has has a 91-61 overall coaching record in stints at Briarcrest and White Station.
He had a 38-30 record with Briarcrest and the Saints made the Quarterfinals three times (2009, 2012 and 2013) in Wright's tenure.
Before coming to Briarcrest in 2008, Wright turned around the White Station program after going 3-17 in his two years including losing his first 14 games.
Wright went 52-31 in seven years at White Station and the Spartans made five consecutive Class 5A playoff appearances (2003-07).
The Spartans finished 12-2 and reached the Class 5A Semifinals in 2006 and had an undefeated regular season while making the Quarterfinals and going 12-1 in 2007.
Wright started his coaching career as an assistant at MUS from 1997 until 2001.
Currently there are open jobs at Clay County, Bolivar, Munford, Fairley, Clarksville Northwest, Ezell Harding, Red Bank, Briarcrest, Bearden, Carter, Perry County, Powell, Monterey, Clarksville, Halls, Unicoi County, Nashville Overton, Marion County, Davidson Academy, Kirby, Chattanooga Central, Jackson Christian, Knoxville Central and Richland as schools currently looking for a head coach.
