The latest winter storm to strike Oklahoma is causing major travel issues. Not only are the roads icy, but there have been delays at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. According to a March 2 report by KWTV Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City, several roads have been closed and departures from the airport have been canceled due to the winter storm.
At the time of publication, all of the turnpikes in Oklahoma are currently open. Depending on the amount of ice, sleet and snow, that may change. The turnpikes are being treated now in hopes of making travel safer. Despite that, traveling is being discouraged.
One person has lost their life due to the winter storm. A school bus slid on the ice near Chichasha and struck someone helping another traffic accident victim. The name of the person who was killed had yet to be released.
There have been several non-injury accidents reported in the Greater Oklahoma City Metro Area. There have also been several injury accidents reported. The extent of the accidents are currently unknown.
Travelers are being encouraged not to drive. Road crews are working to treat the hazardous roads.
