Major brands of canned tuna recalled because of container problems (Photos)

Bumble Bee Foods on Wednesday recalled selected five-ounce cans of tuna products the cans are thought to have loose-fitting seals, the Union Bulletin reports. Today, Tri-Union Seafoods, which produces Chicken of the Sea tuna, did the same for selected cans of Chicken of the Sea chunk white albacore tuna in water. The ill-fitting seals do not meet quality standards and could result in spoilage, causing illness.

The Bumble Bee tuna was distributed for sale nationwide between Jan. 17 and Feb. 28. The recall includes 48-can cases of some Brunswick brand tuna. All recalled lots have 2016 “best by” dates.

Bumble Bee insists that its first priority is to get the cans out of distributions as soon as possible. Consumers who purchased the recalled Bumble Bee tuna should discard it. Questions about reimbursement should be directed to the company at 800-800-8572.

The Chicken of the Sea product sold at retail chains nationwide in single cans between Feb. 4 and 27. The “best by” date is Jan. 18, 2017. Further information may be obtained by phoning 800-597-5898.
