The DC Comics trinity of superheroes will be on the big screen for the first time.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. announced that Gal Gadot will be playing Wonder Woman in director Zack Snyder's anticipated Man of Steel sequel entitled Batman vs. Superman with Henry Cavill returning as Superman and Oscar winner Ben Affleck as Batman.

Jaimie Alexander, who plays Asgardian warrior Sif in Thor and Thor: The Dark World with Marvel Avenger Chris Hemsworth as the titular superhero, was once rumored as a contender for the role.

Up until now, Gadot has been known to moviegoers as Gisele Harabo in Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6 from The Fast and the Furious franchise alongside Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker.

With Superman fighting for truth, justice and the American Way as the Man of Steel, Batman striking fear into the hearts of the criminals and corrupt as the brooding Dark Knight Detective, Wonder Woman is the Amazonian warrior princess who stands up for the rights of all women and teaches men on the ideals of peace, love, and equality.

Together, these three are the heart, soul, and strength of the Justice League, Earth's greatest champions against the forces of evil.

Batman vs. Superman is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
