Whether or not "Assassin's Creed 4" would happen has been a bit of a formality of sorts, but now Ubisoft has given confirmation of a brand-new "Assassin's Creed 4" coming out soon.
According to a report from IGN today, a freshly made "Assassin's Creed" is currently in production and looks like will be the next installment in the franchise, versus the sub-sequels people thought were coming for "Assassin's Creed III."
This is no doubt extremely surprising news as people were thinking there would be some spinoff installments of "Assassin's Creed III," especially given the amount of time and money that was invest into the game.
The next installment of "Assassin's Creed" will once again be moving locations and will feature a brand-new, unknown protagonist.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the "all-new Assassin's Creed hero, within an all new team and time period [will be] another major leap forward for the franchise."
"Assassin's Creed 4" is confirmed to be releasing sometime during the spring of 2014, so people can expect to see this title at E3 2013, with a possible reveal coming before then.
Ubisoft seems to be insanely invested in this brand as Guillemot said "it is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product. Each [team] getting several years to make their versions of an 'Assassin's Creed' game."
No specific studio was given away as to who is developing the game, nor was whether or not next-generation consoles would be involved, but it is almost a formality at this point. This game will be on the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4.
"Assassin's Creed 4" will be releasing sometime during the spring of 2014. Feels good to write that.
