Summer is almost here and if you're anything like me, you've been working on; getting your body back into shape for bathing suit season. You want to look good when strolling through the Lido deck of your favorite cruise ship. Many of our customers return home to find that they've put on a few pounds. Whether it's due to all those desserts, an endless buffet or not exercising, weight gain on a cruise ship is just not cool.
Here are a few tips on how to keep the weight off while cruising:
Choose nutrient rich foods. All cruise lines have some kind of set menu in the dining room that features either low calorie, low sugar or low salt choices. Make sure to ask your waiter for his recommendations. When you visit the buffet, ask the person behind the dessert counter if there are any sugar free desserts available. Normally, cruise lines will have some hidden, less guilty desserts, behind the scenes. Don't completely eliminate foods that you LOVE. Who are you kidding? You'll spring back into old habits very quickly. Give yourself an opportunity to have a spoonful of your favorite dessert or a piece of bread, but keep the serving size small.
Use the gym. It's free. Cruise ships have wonderful gym facilities. You can use the machines, take a class or enjoy the sauna. Make sure to visit the gym on board on the first day. It's customary for the gym staff to have great opportunity to either train with a personal trainer, attend a "how to" class or receive feedback on nutrition, body mass, etc.
My best advise, take it one day at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself with what you may eat tomorrow or the next day. Focus on one meal at a time. If you've gone a little overboard with your food consumption on the first day, tone it down on the second day. Don't beat yourself up over it.
