Maine loses big to high powered Vermont

BANGOR-- The Vermont Catamounts men's basketball team jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back on Thursday evening.

Vermont held a 37-20 halftime lead, and cruised to an 83-46 victory over the University of Maine at Cross Insurance Center.

Maine did not have a player score in double figures.

Garet Beal led the Black Bears with nine points in 14 minutes.

Maine shot 16-45 (35.6%) from the field.

Dimitry Coronel and Xavier Pollard chipped in with seven points each for the Black Bears.

Maine (3-13/1-3) will host Albany at Memorial Gym on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Vermont was the preseason pick to win America East. They have shown why, as they started conference play with a 3-0 record.

Ethan O'Day scored 12 points to lead a balanced Catamounts attack.

Vermont out-rebounded Maine 38-20.
