Maine basketball sweeps UMBC

Liz Wood recorded 15 points (including 3 three pointers), eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists to lead the University of Maine women's basketball team to a 61-48 victory over UMBC on Saturday.afternoon.

The Black Bears hit 14 three pointers as a team to match a school record.

It was the first win for the University of Maine women at UMBC since 2007.

Cherrish Wallace added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Sophie Weckstrom scored nine points on 3 three point baskets.

Maine improved to 10-11 overall and 4-4 in America East play.

The University of Maine men's basketball team also got a win over UMBC on Saturday afternoon.

Xavier Pollard and Zarko Valjarevoc scored 18 points each to lead the Black Bears to an 83-80 victory at Cross Insurance Center.

Marko Pirovic (13 points) and Troy Reid-Knight (10 points) came off the bench to score in double figures.

Maine (5-16/3-6) will travel to Vermont on Tuesday evening.
