Maine baseball wins in extra innings

Mike Connelly hit a single with one out in the 12th inning that scored Alex Calbick and gave the University of Maine Black Bears baseball team a 2-1 victory over West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Port Charlotte, Florida.

The Black Bears were trailing 1-0 going to the bottom of the ninth inning. Alex Calbick hit a run scoring single that scored Sam Balzano and sent the game to extra innings.

Colin Gay had four hits for the Black Bears. Connelly finished with two hits including the game winner.

A.J. Bazdanes pitched nine excellent innings for Maine. Bazdanes allowed eight hits, one walk and one run. He struck out six.

D.J. Voisine pitched three scoreless innings to earn the victory. Voisine allowed only one hit.

Maine (7-10) will take on Chicago State at Punta Gorda, Florida Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.

The Black Bears defeated Chicago State 9-5 last week.
