This week, immerse yourself in a unique cultural splendor at the Oakland Public Library through an amazing poetry performance.

On Wednesday, December 4, enjoy an Evening of Contemporary Russian Poetry from artist and writer, Tatyana Apraksina, who will be reciting her work in Russian with English translations and song settings by James Manteith.

Though Russian born and dwelling in St. Petersburg for most of her life, Ms. Apraksina embarked on an unusual transition to Californian life in the 1990s which left her settling on the Big Sur Coast. This major adaptation of absorbing a new culture and environment brought her to writing California Psalms.

California Psalms features heartfelt poems with imagery and profound contemplation, a wonderful written art that will couple with illustrations by Ms. Apraksina on display during this event.

Attendees will not only be able to be astonished by this exclusive performance, they are also encouraged to take a piece of this event with them. The poetry book, California Psalms will be available for sale along with the chance to have purchased books signed by Tatyana Apraksina.

An Evening of Contemporary Russian Poetry will take place at the Main Library’s Bradley Walters Community Room located on 125 14th Street in Oakland from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information about this event, contact Barbara Bibel at (510) 238-3138.
