Mail campaign might be last chance to save Ringo Starr's Madryn Street home

Any hope to save former Beatle Ringo Starr's Madryn Street Liverpool home seems to be quickly fading. English Heritage, which this past year has given protected listed status to Abbey Road Studios and the Abbey Road crossing, has turned down a request to list Ringo's Madryn Street birthplace in Liverpool.

A spokesman for English Heritage told us, "The decision not to recommend 9 Madryn Street, Ringo Starr's former home, was taken because the house has no associations with the success of the Beatles as a group, was only lived in by Ringo Starr for four years after his birth and is not architecturally or historically significant enough to match listing criteria."

However, David Bedford, author of the book "Liddypool," told us the final word really is up to the Liverpool City Council.

"All that has happened is that English Heritage have turned down a request to have his home listed/protected, but that was no surprise really and would have been a bonus," he told us.

"The biggest problem is that the city council doesn't want to talk or listen to what we have to say. In the end that is what will make the difference in the end."
