Mahalia, A Gospel Musical comes to Jackson

Mahalia, A Gospel Musical will be presented at New Stage Theatre in Jackson, Mississippi from February 26-March 10, 2013. The musical tells the life story of the late Queen of Gospel Music, Mahalia Jackson.

The play highlights key moments in the singer's life from her childhood singing in church in New Orleans all the way to her later years performing for kings and queens around the globe. Her unique, powerhouse voice has never been duplicated by any singer in the world.

She was first brought to the international spotlight for her multi-million selling smash hit, Move On Up A Little Higher. The vocalist is also legendary for several spirituals that she sang during the civil rights movement including I've Been Buked and I've Been Scorned, Keep Your Hand on The Plow, and We Shall Overcome.

This play is directed by none other than the talented Francine Thomas Reynolds. It was written by Tom Stolz.
