Located in the heart of Pittsburgh, Heinz Hall has served as a cultural venue to the area since 1927. It may be most known for its association with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra but it has been home to many other forms of entertainment, including ballets and popular music concerts, as well.
While somewhat plain when seen from the street, the building’s interior is a scene of grandeur. Ornate gold trim and molding on white ceiling and walls rises elegantly above crimson seats, inspiring awe as one waits in anticipation of the show. Heinz Hall transports its visitors to a world of splendor.
Coming from a small town, my access to high culture is somewhat limited. As such, it made my viewing of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra that much more stunning. The magnificent acoustics of Heinz Hall surround the audience in sound and I felt as though I was being bathed in Beethoven’s notes, rather than simply hearing them.
With all of Heinz Hall’s glory, tickets to its events sell rapidly and often can’t be purchased spur-of-the-moment. One will most likely have to order in advance, but it is well worth it. Plan an evening out and experience the city’s culture with dinner and a show. Of all the ways the night may leave you feeling, disappointed will not be one of them.
