As a young boy growing up, Kris Bentz was always intriqued by magic. But it wasn't until his first year in college, that his interest peaked.  "Magic was a good break from my studies," recalls the 27-year-old North Park resident. "It was a good study aid. It kept me sharp." 

Bentz has been a professional magician for eight years and for him, he's living the ultimate dream. Best known for his friendly, laid back Southern California style, he's earned quite a following among locals. If he's not entertaining corporate groups or performing at private events, he's usually wowing crowds at The Gathering in Mission Hills or the San Diego Embarcadero.  Hint: Look for the guy surrounded by a bunch of people who are oohing and aahing.

Despite his recent success, it wasn't always smooth sailing.  The Chico State graduate can still remember those early days when he did street shows in France. "It was really bad," Bentz says. "But that's also when I had my first inkling... when I realized, hey, there's something to this."  So, with a little persistance and watching endless hours of instructional magic videos, that soon changed.
