Magical Mendocino pops the cork on super spring events

Wine lovers already know that Mendocino, California sports the nation's highest percentage of organic and biodynamic vineyards as well as an iconic short list of destinations boasting their own brew, cuvee or artisanal blends. What you may not realize is that this spring the area is popping the cork on exciting events from the annual celebration of sparkling wines on April 5 to the mega film festival on May 29th. Events in a nutshell:

  • Parducci Wine Cellars free party for the Planet April 19 to protect the earth with a full day of fun for folks all ages (must be old enough to drink, however). Guests can dig into tours of the winery's organic, biodynamic garden, get cozy at the petting zoo for children, step into Lovers Lane or enjoy the entertainment all set on the winery's stunning grounds. Finish off the adventure in the tasting room with an exclusive swirl of Parducci wines. 10-5 p.m. F
  • Pollinators Event April 26 continue the earth-saving theme with a family-friendly event staged at the 12-acre Solar Living Institute in Hopland, the gateway to Mendocino County's inland empire. With bee colony collapse heading the news of late, this event will celebrate supporting the eco-system with demonstrations on making a bee pollinator hotel, crafting beeswax, planting bee-friendly plants and a sinful tasting of locally produced honeys. 10 - 3 p.m. Admission is free and info available at www.solarliving.org.
  • And still more planet-friendly activities on April 26 when Noyo Food Forest steps up to the plate with a day of fun and food in Ft. Bragg celebrating its 8th annual party to the plane. Activities include workshops on sustainability, agriculture and gardening demonstrations, a culinary showcase featuring local chefs, inspiring speakers, kids' activities and live music at The Learning Garden at Fort Bragg High School from 12 - 5 p.m. with free admission.
  • Boonville Beer blast for suds-lovers takes place May 3 celebrating the rich craft brew tradition at Mendocino County Fairgrounds from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets cost $40/advance, $5/non-drinker; http://www.visitmendocino.com/festivals-events/2012-05-12/boonville-beer-fest.
  • Ninth annual film buff blast at the Mendocino Film Festival May 29 to June 1, will feature a round-up of films showcased in an expanded number of locales including the village of Mendocino, Point Arena, Anderson Valley, Fort Bragg, and Willits. The recently expanded county-wide festival features a variety of inspiring narrative, documentary, and short films with special events and Q&A sessions with filmmakers.
