Deep pocket travelers looking to sweep their lovers off to an over-the-top cottage should put Matakauri Lodge on their bucket list. The luscious lakeside retreat just outside Queenstown, New Zealand just opened a $5 million, four-bedroom, 5,000 square-foot Owner’s Cottage complete with balconies overlooking the mountains.
While it’s ideal for couples, if you prefer traveling with close friends, the freestanding building can accommodate up to eight people. The facility features six separate outdoor spaces, including a courtyard with a Jacuzzi. If you want to prepare a romantic repast together you have use of a fully-equipped kitchen or if you prefer a personal chef.
Rates range from $5,000 for a two-bedroom suite to $12,000 per night when opened to four-bedrooms, and include a full breakfast, pre-dinner drinks and canapés, dinner, complimentary in-suite refreshments and bar, WiFi and use of Lodge facilities (excluding spa treatments).
Matakauri Lodge is located on Lake Wakatipu, a seven-minute drive from Queenstown, the adventure capital of the southern hemisphere.
You’ll enjoy many diversions such as dining on the fine food of Chef Jonathan Rogers who prepares a new menu daily from many ingredients that are sourced from the on-property garden. Homemade cookies and brownies are delivered to guest rooms daily. They can also arrange romantic picnics on a private mountain at the edge of waterfall (which is accessible by helicopter); food and wine excursions and a Dart River jet safari.
