Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Event Decks, designed for a player to jump right into the "casual-competitive" environment of Friday Night Magic, have had their product packaging images released (sadly, without a cardlist, but that will come in time). Clearly, the decks contain plenty of Mirrodin Besieged goodness, and will be released on February 25, 2011.
Update: The full contents of each event deck are now available!
As we noted in our interview with Elaine Chase earlier this year at PAX, these decks will contain "four ofs", so they should be considerably more competitive than say, the Myr of Mirrodin Intro Pack. There will also be seven rares per box (no mythics), and each comes with a strategy insert to help customize the deck further.
It would appear that one of the decks is a mono-red Mirran themed creation, while the other is a blue black with a decidedly Phyrexian-looking Myr on the box packaging.
We're still a little skeptical how these Event Decks are going to fare against the players sporting netdecks drizzled with massive mythics, but we're hoping they live up to their goal of competitive, fun, out-of-the-box play.
Magic: The Gathering Event Decks will be available just in time for the Mirrodin Besieged Game Day on March 5-6th.
