Welcome to the Magic Mailbag, which will launch on a semi-regular basis and cover some of the questions about Magic: The Gathering that we receive. Some are fun, some are serious, and we try to hit the ones that have the most relevance to current sets, decks, and archetypes.
If you're looking for your regularly scheduled content and analysis, feel free to go snag it. If you're curious about what some other readers are asking about, read on!
Question: Does Rot Wolf's ability work in a trade?
Answer: Yes, yes it does. Feel free to trade your infect wolf and enjoy the card. By the same token, if your Rot Wolf manages to injure multiple creatures and they all hit the yard, you'll get a card for each.
Question: What set is Fire Servant in?
Answer: You can acquire a Fire Servant in the Magic 2011 set or in the Fire & Lightning Premium Deck.
Question: Does Creeping Corrosion destroy equipment?
Answer: Sure does! Creeping Corrosion will take care of any and all artifacts, including equipment.
Question: What are your thoughts on Ichor Wellspring in draft?
Answer: Current buzz has the pros rating it ridiculously high. While it is an amazing card, we cannot place it in the first pick territory - the strategy will be well known and will suffer from multiple players attempting it.
Question: Into the Breach or Infect and Defile?
Answer: Are you playing at home or in the casual room on MTGO? Enjoy some Infect and Defile. If you're looking to roll the dice in a real event, we would have to recommend Into the Breach.
Question: I'm playing the prerelease sealed format, Mirran or Phyrexian?
Answer: We stand by our initial assessment of Phyrexia for this specific format and we've played a considerable amount of pools. Some people tend to think Mirran has more solid pools but you're "color constricted" in the same way as Phyrexian. We really do think there is more value to be had in Phyrexian pools, more degenerate possibilities.
Burn the Impure is often touted as a Mirran darling but seriously, there's been little trouble dealing with 3 life loss - you need to evaluate which Phyrexian cards you're playing and be willing to adapt. It's ok to consider white and blue as options based on your pool! You can play cards without infect or the Phyrexian watermark in your Phyrexian pool, we cannot stress this enough.
Question: What is the best Mirrodin Besieged Intro Pack?
Answer: If you're playing against other MBS Intro Packs, we definitely consider Path of Blight the winner. The others are quite malleable depending on your specific interests.
Question: How do I use Phyrexian Hydra?
Answer: The best way to take advantage of Phyrexian Hydra is to make sure it doesn't get bogged down in actual combat – evasive tools like Bladed Pinions can help.
Question: What is the March 2011 FNM card?
Answer: We don't have an image yet, but the rumor is that it's Wall of Omens.
