Our friends over in Germany love their games, and idolize game designers. So it's no surprise that the German gaming site buffed.de jumped at the chance to preview a Magic 2015 card designed by an outside pro - a crazy efficient white token maker enchantment from Ascension and Soulforge designer Justin Gary. Here's Geisterbund, in translation:
Spiritual Alliance 1W
Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay W. If you do, put a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying onto the battlefield.
1W, Sacrifice a Spirit: Target non-Spirit creature gains indestructible until end of turn.
Designed by Justin Gary
As with any engine that churns out value (in this case a crapton of flying bodies) this just begs to be abused. Green-white decks can do Roaring Primadox and Ornithopter, and of course there's just good old Field of Souls to keep your side of the board full in any situation. The indestructible-granting activated ability, though, is probably the most exciting thing here. Got a fatty with no removal-proofing that needs to be winning you the game? Know your opponent has a fistful of instants and sorceries that can absolutely ruin your creature's day and an itchy trigger finger? No problem - you can build up Spirit tokens over the course of the game and then just have them effectively take bullets until your opponent runs out of kill spells! Attrition has never felt so good inside!
What do you think of this efficient army builder? Let me know in the comments.
