Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 is coming out very soon, and along with it are, of course, cards from Magic 2014. Today, the teaser trailer for the game was released, and StarCityGames gave us all a preview of the digital cards in Duels 2014, which will likely be reflected in Magic 2014. There's a never-before-seen mythic Demon in the game, called Shadowborn Demon, and it appears we've gotten our hands on one of Magic 2014's black mythics.
Shadowborn Demon follows in the cheap-beater-with-a-drawback tradition of rare and mythic black creatures; it's a 5/6 flyer for 3BB that destroys a non-Demon creature when it enters the battlefield. Of course, the catch is it forces you to sacrifice a creature at the beginning of your upkeep if there are fewer than six creature cards in your graveyard.
Much like Hellcarver Demon, this guy works in the demonic number 6 a couple of times, which is of course flavorfully awesome for a mythic Demon. He also packs a punch in terms of playability; at worst he's a sorcery-speed creature destruction spell, which isn't exactly terrible as a Limited pull. At best - if you've got a full graveyard by the time he hits the board - he's a flying finisher with fat toughness and no drawback that also happens to be able to remove your opponent's finisher. I predict good things for this guy when Magic 2014 is released. Expect to see him in many a suicide-black aggro deck.
What do you think of the new mythic Demon? Let me know in the comments!
