Fox News reported that the show’s Senior Executive Producer, Simon Andreae said,
“We wanted to make a film about female sexuality in particular, which has often been more debated than male sexuality, which is pretty straight forward.”
“I asked if she [Maggie Gyllenhaal] would be interested in collaborating with us on a film that explores the nature of female sexuality and whether the female orgasm helps in conception, how it evolved, why it’s there, what it means, and so on, and she was immediately fascinated.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal, who starred in Crazy Heart, The Dark Knight and the upcoming Hysteria was chosen to for this specific episode on the Discovery's Curiosity because she had starred in “edgy, independent movies specifically about sexuality," according to Andreae.
Her latest movie Hysteria is a romantic comedy about the invention of the vibrator, according to IMDB. A U.S. released date has not yet been announced.
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis are slated to star in a new drama that has a working title of Still I Rise; however, the film is in development at this time with limited information available.
Discovery’s Curiosity discusses topics from God to aliens to sexuality. It premiered on August 7, 2011 and airs on the Discovery Channel on Sundays at 8pm.
