The cover of the August '09 issue of Uncut.
Such a deal.
The August 2009 issue of Uncut, which is still on the shelves here in the States, has a couple of must-see features.
The first is a comprehensive profile of the Yardbirds. It includes some great rare pictures going back to the Clapton days and quotes from Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, among others. It also has a short feature on the group's appearance in the movie "Blow Up."
As a companion to that, the magazine also contains a great freebie CD called "Woke Up This Morning" that contains 15 blues original versions of British rock mainstays by the Yardbiards, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and Them including "I've Got a Woman," "Smokestack Lightning," "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," "Baby Please Don't Go," "I'm a Man," "Key to the Highway," "I Wish You Would" and "Rambling on My Mind," and that's even not all of them.
The September issue has another roots CD, but this one focuses on the roots of the Beatles - just in time for the Beatles remastered CDs. One to wait for, certainly, for those of us in the States. (It's just hitting the UK racks.)
