I've spent the last 2 months with Strunk & White and at Finishing School to become a literate lady. The moderator censored / deleted my last two posts because he said they didn't "make any sense." Back then I was another person, the woebegone barking mad Marge the Barge. I am now Magnificent Lady Majoriiee.
I would first like to address something said in the last issue of Beatlefan, in the article about the album "McCartney II". There had been a "teaser" in the previous issue as to how "McCartney II" had made Lennon want to re-enter the recording scene. I had never heard this before! But knowing Beatlefan was the self-proclaimed Time / Newsweek of Beatle fandom, I knew I was in for a major revelation! And here it is, from page 20:
The studio version of 'Coming Up' is a song "that John Lennon, of all people, absolutely loved. According to some, Lennon was obsessed by it." Oh dear, neither Time nor newsweek would have anything to do with that! Why, even Wikipedia would insert [source needed] after "...Lennon...absolutely loved" and another after "According to some..." That's not Time, my dears. More like any market tabloid that uses "a close friend", "a source near to the subject" and so on. The writer continues:
"...it achieved something that ...Jagger, ...Dylan, ...Bowie, Elton John and even Wings couldn't do: it inspired John Lennon to record music again. It made Lennon come back." There's at least a couple of places there that Wiki would insert [citation needed].
I have not read everything written about the Beatles, so I may have missed something. But the author needs to tell who the "according to some" are, as well as support his other statements quoted above, or it helps makes Beatlefan the Supermarket Tabloid of Beatle fandom, IMHO. Also to quote the moderator/censor of this column, these statements by the author just don't "make sense".
Now in the upcoming issue we find an article on the "milking" of John Lennon's recording output. That "milking" bit seems to point to a negative attitude about Lennon reissues, IMHO. It also seems to indicate the need for an article that doesn't view Lennon reiussues as "milking". You know, a balancing different opinion? Time or Newsweek might do this, but a tabloid - not likely.
I think this post makes sense. If this one gets censored/deleted, it will confirm my opinion that Marinucci simply will not allow uncomplimentary comments about Beatlefan tabloid, IMHO.
