Whew this sure is a busy Father's day. On Sunday, June 15th, Harlem is hosting the Mafrika African Music festival at Marcus Garvey Park from Noon-8pm. On that same day, the Shrine and Silvana's in Harlem are having free African music all day long in coordination with the event.
The Shrine is located on 133rd Street and 7th Avenue (Adam Clayton Powell) , near the 2,3 trains and the C train to 135th. Great music all the time, and food from Yatenga next door. Silvana's is located on 116th and 8th Ave (Frederick Douglass) right next to the C train.
Marcus Garvey Park is located from 124th street to 120th street between Madison and not quite Lenox Ave. Take the 2,3 trains to 125th to get there.
Look this is a great opportunity to take in a lot of culture, great music, and get to enjoy harlem. Going afterward to those two places, especially the Shrine with all its intimate setting is one of the best venues in the city. That's enough to keep you busy day and night people.
