Madson likely to start the season on the DL after his latest setback (Photos)

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Ryan Madson hasn't thrown a baseball in ten days.

The last time he threw a baseball was on February 1st. But the team has shut him down the past several days due to soreness in his surgically-repaired right elbow.

"It's a little discouraging," said Madson.

Last April, he had Tommy John surgery and missed the rest of the season. He signed a free agent deal with the Angels in the off-season.

The news it not what he wanted to hear. However, he is optimistic that he will be able to pitch again.

The latest setback will make it tough for him to be ready for the Angels Opening Day roster. He will likely start the season on injured reserve.

And Ernesto Frieri is expected to open the season as the closer until Madson is able to come back.
