Real Madrid plan on hijacking Chelsea and Manchester United’s efforts to sign 18-year-old left back Luke Shaw from Southampton this summer, the Mirror reports.

The England international has long since been courted by the two English giants, but Shaw may now consider following in Gareth Bale’s footsteps by jumping straight away to Spain.

Despite his age, Shaw has appeared 60 times in Southampton’s first team and is likely to go with England to the World Cup this summer.

Shaw has been noted to be a Chelsea fan, though in recent weeks, the prospect of playing time seemed to put Manchester United in the lead for his transfer. With Patrice Evra likely to leave Old Trafford this summer, the left back berth is wide open for the taking.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole that frequent the same position.

What could ensue now is a bidding war between all three clubs - all of which have substantial financial means.
