Forget Lady Gaga, Elton John's South American tour has been a huge disappointment as today, Billboard's Boxscore report reveals he couldn't even sell out the Jockey Club in Brazil. He sold 10,195 seats while his promoter said as much as 12,000 were available. However, we checked in with our friends in Brazil and they say the Jockey Club can hold far more seats than 12,000.
It 's sort of interesting how Elton John called Madonna's recent tour a disaster. In Sao Paulo, Madonna played to an audience of over 85,000. That is eight times the audience Elton John played to. Of course, we're talking about a man who has not come up with a hit single ever since he completely exploited Princess Diana's death in 1997 and turned it into a "single." Ever since then, his albums have flopped one after the other.
Madonna may not be as commercially viable as she once was, but she still scores top ten singles and doesn't have to resort to calling other pop stars the "C" word in order to garner publicity. Some believe that this column is a Madonna stan column, but it isn't. We won't deny that she has made some dumb career moves lately. Still, she still has some of that fire left to burn. We can't say the same for Elton John, who should just play his next gig at a local Starbucks in order to call it a "sellout."
