Madonna showed up wearing a Boy Scout uniform at the 24th Annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Awards (GLAAD) held on March 16, 2013 in New York City. Madonna did a short introductionl on wanting to be a Boy Scout and told the audience, “but they wouldn't let me join,” according to the Huffington Post Sunday.
She continued listing all her assets that would come in handy if she could only be a Boy Scout:
“I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent... Listen, I want to do good for my community. Most importantly, I know how to scout for boys!”
Madonna also said that she thinks they should “change their stupid rules.” The "Material Girl" was talking about the ban on gay scouts and scout leaders and she stood at the podium and gave her 10 minute speech dressed just like a Boy Scout.
GLAAD gives out a yearly awards to honor the best representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender folks in the media. This year Madonna's speech served two purposes. The first purpose was to talk about how wrong it is to ban gay boys and men from an affiliation with the Boy Scouts and the second was to introduce this year's winner of GLAAD 's Vito Russo Award, Anderson Cooper.
