Madonna is on Instagram, as reported at Gawker on Feb. 11, 2013. The pop star joined Twitter for a bit, with the handle @MadonnaMDNAday, to promote her 2012 album MDNA, but her activity was devoted solely to special Twitter announcements and chats centered on the release. Now that the 2012 tour is over, and the buzz for the album has ended, Madge's fans may find her on the popular photo sharing/social networking site more often.
But is Madonna on Instagram a good thing? Has Madge done more harm than good for her image? As of this writing, the 54-year-old mother of four has posted seven photos on Instagram. Four are 2012 pics from her MDNA concerts and are not particularly buzz worthy. That cannot be said for the three posted in Feb. 2013.
In one, a super thin, buff Madonna peers into the camera, sipping a martini. "Cheers motherfuckers! I'm on Instagram," the caption says.
In another photo, Madge wears one of the popular winter animal ear hats normally seen on young people, the long tassels tied playfully over her upper lip. The caption reads, "I'm thinking of shaving my moustache!!!!"
Finally, a sweaty Madonna zooms in on her famous cleavage. She wears a zigzag patterned workout top over a black bra. "Addicted to sweat !!!!!" is the caption.
Over the years that the Queen of Pop has been on the scene, she's been admired for her variety of talents. The singer, songwriter, actress, director, dancer and entrepreneur has survived and remained in the spotlight longer than most entertainers can. But is she aging gracefully, or is she becoming a joke?
"Nowadays, sex is everywhere, and just about every video clip has simulated S&M, rape scenes, prostitution and bondage. Wedding dresses and crucifixes just don't cut it anymore.
This is OK if you're 26, but just a bit alarming when you're 53 and still at it. Perhaps it's time for Madonna to hang up her bustier," writes journalist Susie O'Brien on June 15, 2012. "As a woman marching toward her mid-40s, I should respect and admire Madonna; and I do, honestly I do. But I can't help thinking that she's getting on a bit. When you have to try so damned hard to be different, you end up looking a bit desperate."
