Madonna presented CNN anchor Anderson Cooper with the Vito Russo Award at the 2013 GLAAD Awards. The 54-year-old pop icon wore a Boy Scout uniform and planted a kiss on the openly gay newsman, Us Weekly reported on March 17.

Madonna explained to the audience that she chose to wear the navy blue Boy Scout ensemble, complete with oversized cowboy hat, in order to bring attention to the Boy Scouts of America refusal to lift its ban on gay scout masters and members.

“I wanted to be a Boy Scout but they wouldn’t let me join. I think they should change their stupid rules, don’t you?”

The “Material Girl” called Cooper a “bad a** mother***er” who has the most beautiful blue eyes she has ever seen, proclaiming that half of America is in love with him.

“The reason I love you is because you are a freedom fighter. You are a “bad a** mother f***er. You are brave and the world needs more people like you. Come get your award. Give me a reason to grab you’re a**.”

Anderson Cooper, 45, arrived at the stage to receive the Vito Russo award which recognized his work as an accomplished, openly gay journalist, and Madonna planted a kiss on the talk show host.

Cooper, who came out in an open letter to political blogger Andrew Sullivan in July 2012, thanked his partner Benjamin Maisani in his acceptance speech. The respected newsman called being gay one of the greatest blessings of his life. Anderson Cooper’s explained that coming out as a gay man has allowed him to love and beloved, to open his head and his heart in ways he never could have predicted.
