Madonna dons Boy Scout uniform at GLAAD Media Awards! (Photos)

Madonna Ciccone certainly knows how to grab our attention – this time it’s by donning a Boy Scout uniform as she attended the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on March 16, 2013 in New York City.

The 54-year-old Material Girl was the featured guest at the event and presented honoree Anderson Cooper, the award-winning journalist, author and talk show host, with the Vito Russo Award.

Not one to mince words, Madonna said during her speech, “I wanted to be a boy scout, but they wouldn’t let me join,” Madonna said during her speech. “I think that’s f–ked up. I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I have a very good sense of direction. I can rescue kittens from trees. Listen, I wanna do for the community. But most importantly, I know how to scout for boys. So I think that I should be allowed to be a Boy Scout and I think they should change their stupid rules.”

The navy blue Boy Scout uniform, complete with hat and a striped kerchief and teamed with leather mittens and black laceup ankle boots was sort of 1950’s retro with Madonna’s wavy blonde hair and bright red lipstick.

Actor Wilson Cruz, known for playing “Rickie Vasquez” on “My So-Called Life” and his recurring character “Genito” on “Noah's Arc,” too sported a Boys Scout uniform as he spoke on stage.

Actor Dan Stevens of Dowton Abbey fame, sporting dark hair and the beginnings of a mustache also looked dapper in his charcoal grey suit, black shirt and black tie.

Other actors attending included John Leguizamo (with wife Justine Maurer), Andy Mientus, Wesley Taylor, Christian Borle and Avan Jogia who accessorized with a bolo tie.

Joining Madonna at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were actresses Bernadette Peters (age-defying at 65!), who looked lovely in her bodycon red dress and indigo blue pumps, Milla Jovovich in her ivory and black pants and top ensemble, Cristine Prosperi, Annie Clark and Krysta Rodriquez as well as cable news personality Kimberly Guilfoyle and transgender model Lauren Foster in a stunning red gown.

On their website glaad.org, the GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards are explained as being held annually to celebrate “outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and our allies on TV, in film, and in the news.”

GLAAD is currently headed by their president Herndon Graddick, who was attending this evening, looking rather dapper in his dark suit.

As for the Vito Russo Award, Russo, who died in 1990, was a film historian who was one of the first to raise concerns about how gays and lesbians are portrayed in the media.

Congrats to Anderson Cooper on his Vito Russo award! Take a look at Madonna and others in my slideshow of the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards…
