On Saturday, August 17 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., North Alabama's newest craft beer destination, Wish You Were Beer (7407 US Highway 72, Suite G, Madison), will hold the official grand opening festivities for their bottle shop and taproom.
Wish You Were Beer is North Alabama's first and only bottle shop that focuses exclusively on craft and specialty beer. Owner Damon Eubanks, a former area sales manager for Alabev and beertender in the Straight to Ale taproom, has built Wish You Were Beer to be a craft beer shop that is both a destination and experience for local and visiting beer drinkers alike. After months of hard work, the final product is a 2000 square foot beer store featuring a sales floor with the best craft beer available in the state, a section for homebrewing equipment and supplies, a growler station boasting 24 taps, and a tasting room bar where you can enjoy a pint while you shop. Combine all of that with a dedicated, knowledgeable staff, and Eubanks has provided North Alabama with an amazing craft beer shopping experience.
For the grand opening event on August 17, everyone at Wish You Were Beer invites the public to come out and enjoy great beer, tasty food, live music, and the best of company. As part of their Bama Beer Tour 2013 promotion, they will be pouring 20 taps of Alabama brews for you to enjoy at the store by the pint or at home with a growler to-go. Area brewers being featured at the bar will be in attendance to discuss their breweries and the beers being poured. Local food truck On-On Tacos will be on site to keep anyone from going hungry and live entertainment will be provided by acoustic blues guitarist Mike Slaten. To round it all off, Wish You Were Beer will also have door prize giveaways to attendees throughout the event.
I hope to see you all at the grand opening event on Saturday. If you cannot make this event, Wish You Were Beer will also be holding a Lagunitas Brewing Company release party in the near future, a Victory Brewing Company launch event at 5 p.m. on August 21, and a beer & food pairing classroom that will be a part of the Stone Brewing Co. launch on August 27. See, you already have plenty of great reasons to make you a regular at Wish You Were Beer over the next few weeks!
I'll be able to say this in person on Saturday, but I'll say it here as well in closing. I am incredibly happy for and proud of Damon Eubanks for making Wish You Were Beer a reality. I consider him a friend and one of the more knowledgeable craft beer minds in the state. I am elated he has expanded his role in the Alabama craft beer scene because his involvement truly makes our beer community stronger. I sincerely wish the best of luck to Damon and all of those involved with Wish You Were Beer. Prost!
