Looking for something to do on Valentine’s Day that doesn’t involve the normal giving of flowers and chocolates? Why not spend the evening with Chicago’s own, Madina Lake.
Madina will be playing a special benefit show for the Rock N’ Raise for Darfur charity at the Metro on February 14th. The charity is a Chicagowide student coalition that organizes fundraisers throughout the city to help Darfuri refugee children gain access to better education. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Darfur Dream Team Sister Schools Program.
Alongside on the bill, Brendan Kelly, co-vocalist of The Lawrence Arms and guitarist/vocalist of The Falcon will be performing a solo set. Kelly’s previous work includes playing in the legendary Chicago punk outfits Slapstick and The Broadways. Other bands scheduled for the benefit are local Chicagoans The Blisters and Big Science.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Metro box office or through e.tix.com.VIP packages are also available for $100 which will include a reserved table and tickets for 4.
In other Madina Lake news, the band is ready to hit the studio within the next few months to record a new EP. The new material will be the follow up to their last release, Attics to Eden, and they’re inviting fans to lend a helping hand.
In another effort to give back, the band has teamed up with Pledge Music to give you a chance of being a part of the new EP making process. By donating money and pledging, you will gain access to the ‘Pledgers Only Update Page’ which will feature downloads of various raw demos, live tracks, video updates and unreleased songs. With the donation, fans will also get the chance to acquire signed merchandise and may even get to hang with the band in the studio. Once complete, a part of the proceeds from the new EP will go to the Keep-A-Breast charity.
