Founder and Designer Elizabeth “Liz” Hostetter announced today the U.S. launch of her made to order brand, Ellie Kai - a collection of go-to women’s wear pieces that give women direct access to the design, manufacture and purchase of their personal wardrobe. It is available on demand through exclusive “social shopping” trunk shows across the country. Ellie Kai features the proprietary styles, curated, easy-care fabrics and custom textile designs that reflect the sophisticated and trans-continental lifestyle of Ms. Hostetter, who has spent the last 18 years traveling and working abroad. Originally from Cape Cod and where her concept was first introduced in 2011, Hostetter chose Boston as the city to officially launch the Ellie Kai lifestyle brand at an invitation only runway and trunk show of her Summer 2014 Collection at Space 57.

The Ellie Kai Summer 2014 collection offers women a versatile wardrobe of essential pieces in 33 basic styles, including tops, dresses and skirts that women can personalize from an infinite range of fabrics in colorful prints and solids. Fabrics are light and airy for summer including soft, light crepe de Chine silk, stretch crochet weaves, and signature stretch jersey. The summer color palette is inspired by the bold, vibrant colors of Asia including hot pink, coral, blueberry and emerald. Fabrics are sourced from across the regions of India, Bali, Thailand and Japan.

Hostetter designed Ellie Kai as a collaborative experience empowering women to be “partners in design”. Clients can select from Liz’s classic design silhouettes, but define their own style by personalizing the look with fabrics and prints that work best for them. Knowledgeable Ellie Kai Consultants work one-on-one with clients to design their favorite look. Once the client selects and customizes her basic style, along with the fabric and textile design, the made-for-you garment is ordered online through the Ellie Kai website www.elliekai.com and sewn on demand to a client’s specifications at Ellie Kai’s ethically monitored manufacturing facility in China. The garment is shipped directly to the client in just three weeks. Prices range from $115-$200; shipping is free.

When Hostetter moved to Hong Kong in 2010, she struggled to find clothing that fit her tall frame and personal style. Liz decided to create her own designs that reflected her global lifestyle and in a classic yet casual taste. Sourcing fabrics and design ideas from her ongoing travels through Asia, Liz created exclusive patterns and designs for each piece and had them made to her own exacting standards with a local tailor. Friends and family back home on Cape Cod loved the sophisticated, practical-yet-pretty designs Liz had created and were fascinated by the opportunity to “be your own designer” selecting styles, fabrics and patterns of their choice.

Headquartered in the USA in Osterville, Massachusetts, Ellie Kai is sourced, designed and manufactured in Asia where Hostetter now resides with her husband and three children. The name Ellie Kai is also a reflection of the designer herself: Ellie comes from Elizabeth, the nickname Liz received in Fiji while on a philanthropic mission, and Kai has a number of significant meanings around the world including “strong”.

The company’s mission includes a financial commitment to investing in education, literacy and leadership programs for women and girls and supports two key charities: “A Better Chance” (ABC) in the United States and “Room to Read”, with an emphasis on projects in Bangladesh, India and Laos.

“I am thrilled to premiere the Ellie Kai 2014 Summer Collection in Boston,” said Liz Hostetter. “When creating a piece for the Ellie Kai client I really try to tailor items that are wardrobe staples, go-to pieces, yet have some design interest and are a bit more unique. Ultimately Ellie Kai clothes are all about you - the way you want to look, shop, and define your own style. ”
