Newcomers to the country music scene Maddie & Tae have just released the video for their first single “Girl In A Country Song”, and the hilarious final project is one that all country music fans need to see.
It seems a match has been lit to the duo’s debut song as it’s been added to radio stations across the country like wildfire. Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye, who say they grew up listening to Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks and Loretta Lynn definitely bring a sound that shows the influence of these great acts, but with a unique sound all their own as well. Couple their unique twang and harmony with their songwriting vision and country fans end up with a single that–despite it going against the very grain of today’s male country music–is a smash hit.
The video for “Girl In A Country Song” is a great spoof on country female stereotypes, just like the lyrics imply. In the video, three men are seen trying to live up to the ridiculous standards to which country girls are held when they don Daisy Dukes, midriff tops and even short overalls over bare skin.
The men are further depicted as sex symbols as they wash a car, dangle a strawberry to their lips, swing on a tree swing, and even work in a garden, seductively. The entire song is a comical slam to today’s male artists who insist on singing songs with lyrics about a girl’s money maker, painted on jeans, tan legs, painted toes and every other physical attribute that ignores who a girl is apart from her beauty. Maddie & Tae make the point in their lyrics that “Conway and George Strait never did it this way,” shining a spotlight on today’s artists and though maybe teasingly, demand an explanation.
Maddie & Tae make a strong first impression. Neither girl is even 20 years old and yet they each possess the talent, songwriting versatility, stage presence–and apparently, even the ability to pose a challenge with a twinkle in their eyes–like pros. Maddie & Tae still have a long way to go, but if their first single is any indication, they are going to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.
