Patrick Willis, Navorro Bowman, Luke Kuechly, Jerod Mayo and Derrick Johnson were named as the top-five rated Middle Linebackers in the upcoming “Madden NFL 15" video game, Electronic Arts revealed on their official site yesterday.
The 49ers' Willis and Bowman both the share top ranking with a 96 rating. Last season, Bowman led the 49ers with 145 tackles and added five sacks, two interceptions and a TD. Willis’ stats were certainly comparable, with 104 tackles and three sacks in spite of missing two games.
The Carolina Panthers’ Kuechly, the 2012 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and 2013 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year rounds out the top three with a 94 rating after a marvelous 2013 season where he registered 156 total tackles and four interceptions.
New England’s Mayo and the Chiefs’ Johnson fill out the number four and five spots with 91 ratings.
Football fans may wonder why two San Francisco MLBs were ranked #1 and #2 in the game. According to EA Sports, the decision was an easy one.
“We have both 49ers starting MLB’s tied for the best in ‘Madden NFL 15,’” EA said on their official site yesterday. “Bowman's not quite as physically talented as Willis, but he might be the better technician with 98 PUR, 95 BLK SHD (best among all MLB’s), 83 Power Moves, and 99 TAK (tied with Kuechly for best in NFL at MLB).”
“Madden 15” is set for an August 26 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home gaming consoles.
