LOS ANGELES--Madam Media Oprah Winfrey may soon scoop-up the LA Clippers, it will be a phenomenal move by the media mogul. Winfrey is not going at this solo, she will have two other heavy weights, David Geffen and Larry Ellison, and the threesome just might be placing a bid on the team, sources told ESPN. Although she has expressed that she does not have an interest in managing the LA Clippers. But surely fans can expect that she will not be able to stay away from the games, and we can be certain that we will see her on the sidelines rooting for her team. Now, the question will be: “Will she wear the team’s banner and blow an air horn from the bleacher seats?”
The bidding opportunity came about after derogatory remarks were recorded during a squabble between Donald Sterling’s and his girlfriend Vanessa Stiviano. Stiviano placed the recording that made derogatory remarks about America’s African descendants into the public realm, and they became the judge and jury that hung Sterling’s career high up on the tree. The public’s outcry for justice was heard by NBA commissioner Adam Silver, and compiled with the public’s demands. Sliver is insistent that Sterling sells the Clippers, and as that was not enough Silver felt that more punishment needed, and ordered that Sterling be banned for life from the NBA. The commissioner took another step forward and slapped Sterling with a $2.5 million fine as part of the many other sanctions that he had in store for him.
As if Winfrey’s closet is not filled enough with her own tea brand, O magazine, her very own cable network, she even has her own Presidential Medal of Freedom. Now she wants to jam in those Clippers, as it will be one more item in her closet. Geffen is a music and film mogul with a net worth of $6.2 billion estimated by Forbes magazine. There have been several reports that he has made numerous attempts to purchase the Clippers in the past. Also, the software conglomerate Oracle’s CEO Ellison has attempted to place his stakes on any sports team he could get his grips on, however he was always foiled one way or another no matter how many times he has tried.
The three musketeers jumping in to bid to buy the billion dollar Clippers, and that will be quite a feat have happen. With Winfrey, Geffen and Ellison at the helm the team can really use such inspiration of those world-class entrepreneurs. Winfrey, after all could well be the very first African American woman celebrity too ever own a professional NBA basketball team in US history, if the bid is approved. Other bidders have not been disclosed as it has been kept confidential from the public at this time. We can be certain that the team would be at the cheering end if the three musketeers get a hold of them.
