Thousands of EDM fans came to New Braunfels, a quick 30 minute drive south of Austin, for the Mad Decent Block Party at the Whitewater Amphitheater yesterday. With a storm brewing all day, it was fortunate the night ended with nice weather and no rain at the venue.
Performances by Major Lazer , Big Gigantic , Dillon Francis , Baauer , Flosstradamus went late into the night, giving the crowd one hell of a dance party. Glow sticks and neon apparel covered attendees with wild outfits. From furry boots and floral crowns to cat-painted faces and a giant cutout poster of Dillon Francis’s face, the people were crafty with their festival fashion.
Major Lazer’s grand finale set was nothing less than fantastic and full of energy, filled with
confetti cannons, giant flags, and Diplo crowd surfing in a giant plastic bubble. The lucky handful of girls brought on stage had their hips shaking, booties bouncing, and bodies impressively jerking around to the popular hits, Pon De Floor, Express Yourself, and Bubble Butt. The interactive performance was all high energy and fun.
Concern has grown for people using drugs at EDM events after the recent deaths of two attendees of the Electric Zoo electronic festival, but there weren’t any major issues at the Mad Decent Block Party in Dallas last weekend or last night’s show.
The tour has two last stops in California before the fun is finally over. But having shows in 13 different cities in two countries, its safe to say that this block party was one unforgettable event.
