The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade always heralds in the holiday season. In 2013, the giant retailer has roped in some pretty major stars. On Nov. 4, TV By the Numbers revealed that the Robertson family from A&E’s monster hit TV series, “Duck Dynasty,” and Carrie Underwood are just two of the main attractions in this year’s parade.
“For millions of families each year, Thanksgiving Day isn’t complete without tuning in to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” said Doug Vaughan, NBC Executive Vice President of Special Programs and Late Night. “We are thrilled to once again broadcast this national celebration to kick off the holiday season.”
Each year, more than 50 million TV viewers tune in to NBC to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The year 2013 marks the parade’s 87th anniversary. Matt Lauer, Savannah Gutherie and Al Roker will serve as this year’s hosts.
The Robertson family from “Duck Dynasty” is sure to be one of the parade’s biggest draws in 2013. “Duck the Halls,” the Robertson’s new Christmas album, is already on course to make a top 10 debut on the Billboard 200 chart, according to ABC News. All the family members sing on the album and tracks include “Ragin Cajun Redneck Christmas,” “Hairy Christmas," “Duck the Halls,” and 11 other songs. Country stars Luke Bryan, George Strait, Josh Turner and Alison Krauss lend their voices on “Duck the Halls.”
“Duck Dynasty” recently ended season three on A&E, however Robertson mania rages on. The Huffington Post recently wrote, “The Robertsons of West Monroe, Louisiana have quickly become America’s duck calling Kardashians of the South. Though they reign over a massive empire, they rule with a strong sense of humor, humility, loyalty and love.” “Duck Dynasty" is currently off the air (except in reruns), but fans can catch the Robertsons this Thanksgiving.
Carrie Underwood will be another big draw. She began her career by winning “American Idol.” To date, she’s the most successful commercial artist to springboard from “Idol” to the top of the charts. On Wednesday, Underwood is set to co-host “Country Music’s Biggest Night” – the 2013 CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. It airs live at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Nov. 6 on ABC. "I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we are extremely excited to be back for a sixth year hosting the CMA Awards," Underwood told SheKnows.com. "Each year we work harder so that we can help present the best show possible." Carrie already has five CMA Awards under her belt and she is nominated again in 2013.
The Macy’s 2013 Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Robertson family from “Duck Dynasty, Carrie Underwood and dozens of other stars airs at 9 a.m. (all time zones) on NBC on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. It will include more than 8,000 participants, more than 3.5 million spectators, giant balloons, floats of fantasy, top-notch performers, and the grand finale – the arrival of Santa Claus.
