It was an afternoon of music, taste treats, and fabulous fashions; as many gathered at Macy’s Department Store, New Orleans to enjoy a special tribute to African American Women. The event was in celebration of Black History Month to recognize African American women that have made their mark in history for their success and have influenced the style of dress for all women. The presentation, hosted by Tracee Dundas, Fashion Stylist and Creative Director for Fashion Week New Orlean; showcased twelve iconic African American women with models wearing fashions from Macy’s that represented each woman's personal style.
Included in the presentation were (See fashions in photo slideshow):
IMAN – Supermodel, Iman signature style always accentuates her tall stature and model figure. Selected to present Iman’s style was a Vince Camuto one shoulder metallic dress.
DIANA ROSS – Big hair, big voice and big style can best describe Diana Ross. She is a fashion force that cannot be tamed! Ms Ross is known for making a statement of shimmer and shine and the Guess multitone sequin embellished dress works perfectly to represent her style.
JANET JACKSON – Has explored a bevy of looks from rocking it out to a polish lady, but she is most noted for her rhythm nation/military style, which is replicated in a Rachel Roy cropped jacket and wide-leg pants.
JOSEPHINE BAKER – Brings thoughts of flapper, pearls and gloves. A 1920’s inspired dazzling beaded Adrianna Papell dress with scalloped hem takes you right back to the roaring ‘20s.
ERYKAH BADU – Her fashion style is easily recognized for Afrocentric inspired prints, elaborate head wraps and colorful shawls. Bar III provided the look, which included a teal and black top paired with scarf print palazzo pants.
MICHELLE OBAMA – A true trendsetter who is comfortable wearing arm-bearing dresses and allowing some of her favorite looks to make an encore appearance. One can easily see the First Lady of the United States wearing this Calvin Klein fit and flare cobalt blue dress.
BILLI HOLIDAY – Her fashion style can be described as classic and ladylike which include her signature look of a flower in her hair to accent her fancy frocks. The Jessica Howard lime green print dress and shrug works perfectly.
OPRAH – Go-to-Style often is monochromatic, jewel tones and slightly formfitting silhouettes. The emerald green long sleeve dress with a sweetheart neckline by Ralph Lauren compliments any figure type.
RIHANNA – has a definite voice in the fashion world, often expressing a
style that is tough and risqué, with ever-changing hair. The mock-neck ribbed cropped top and matching pencil skirt by Bar III and camouflage vest by Material Girl definitely shows off Rihanna's style.
BEYONCE – On or off the stage, Beyonce always makes a standout statement with her fashion style. Rachel Roy’s modern take on a spring style with an abstract floral print sequins sheath dress would work well in Beyonce's fashion repertoire.
JANELLE MONAE – Signature look is a play on menswear with a feminine touch, topped with a bold and stylish pompadour. The Vince Camuto cobalt blue blazer and slacks paired with Kasper black self-tie blouse was a great tailored look.
EARTHA KITT - Her style is purrfectly poised, often seen in leopard and animal print outfits, many thought perhaps to compliment her catlike voice and demeanor. Eartha Kitt would fall in love with this loose and comfortable Michael Kors animal print top paired with stylish black pants by Style & Co.
