After Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly made comments about Santa Claus being white, reporter Amy Nelson of Animal New York wrote a story on Monday about her investigation into Santa’s race. Nelson soon learned that Macy’s at 34th street has a white Santa Claus in the front and a black Santa Claus in the back, but to meet black Santa, you have to ask. The black Santa Claus is available by special request only, and since Macy’s doesn’t promote him, no one knows he exists.
Nelson asked the white Santa Claus if another Santa exited. As if following a script, the white Santa said he was the only store St. Nick. After meeting with the black Santa, Nelson asked him about his take on the business of Santa’s race. Black Santa responded the season has kept him too busy to follow the news.
According to Nelson, Macy’s PR doesn’t allow store employees to recognize the dark-skinned St. Nick. Nelson says Macy’s PR doesn’t permit black Santa to discuss anything involving race or religion. The article didn’t mention how Nelson learned about the black Santa.
