Macy's closes its Bloomingdale's store at the Fashion Show Mall

Macy's is expected to close its Bloomingdale's store at the Fashion Show Mall. It's anticipated to be closed by spring 2013, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal and the Bloomberg News Service. They reported on Jan. 3 that the retail store hasn't been doing well in recent years.

They will have a storewide clearance starting Sunday. It's expected to last 11 weeks, or until all of the items are sold out. The reason for the closing is because of poor sales.

The Bloomingdale's store first opened its doors in 2002. They currently have 35 sales associates. The company said that they will offer those employees positions in nearby stores.

This isn't the only Macy's that's expected to close. They are planning to close six more stores across the country. The retail giant is remaining optimistic. They're remodeling and expanding the Macy's store at the Fashion Show Mall. They will welcome the addition of the Macy's Men's store come spring.

Jerry Irwin, the general manager for the Fashion Show Mall, sees nothing but good things ahead:

"Quite honestly, we see this as an opportunity for us. It gives us an opportunity to bring some great new retail to the center and to the market."
