Macy's catalog typo sells $1500 necklaces for $47 in error

Macy's catalog typo cost the store an undisclosed amount of money as $1,500 necklaces sold for the incorrect amount of $47. At least one location in Texas actually sold out of the expensive necklaces, which were supposed to be sold for $479, not $47, reported WFAA. On April 1, 2013, news of the typo began trending high on Yahoo! News as people wanted to learn more about the erroneous bargain.

In late March, the store mailed an unknown number of lengthy sales advertisements to potential customers across the country. Somewhere in the 44 pages of deals and discounts was an ad for the stunning sterling silver and gold necklace, which was listed as a "Super Buy!" Super buy, indeed. When a man from Texas named Robert Bernard visited the Macy's location at the Collin Creek Mall, he discovered that the necklaces were all sold out.

Satisfied customers had purchased each and every one of the expensive pieces of jewelry affected by Macy's catalog typo, and who could blame them? It isn't every day one has the opportunity to own a $1,500 necklace for less than 50 bucks.

Although a sales clerk at the Collin Creek Mall sold Bernard two of the necklaces affected by the Macy's catalog typo with a promise to ship them to his home, all the man got was a refund and an apology. The deal was over.

Macy's locations were supposed to post signs alerting customers to the error. They had no intentions of honoring the price printed in the ads. However, some lucky customers managed to buy the bargain before the error was caught. Bernard was not one of the lucky ones.
