Macklemore's "Thrift Store" makes it cool to save again (Video)

You cannot flip through the radio stations of Portland, Or without coming across Macklemore featuring Wanz breakaway hit "Thrift Store." It is a catchy tune that speaks to the times, "I'm gonna pop some tags, only got twenty bucks in my pocket."

In this rough economy, and anytime for a true penny pincher, steals can be found at the thrift store which would be impossible to find elsewhere. With just a few dollars, a bit of time and a lot of patience, there are some major bargains to be had. Is Macklemore onto something?

An exploration of the local Portland thrift store scene produced a list of great places to find some of the coolest things. Why pay retail when you can get great and often designer label duds for a fraction of the price?

Of course, anything purchased second hand needs to be cleaned thoroughly before using or wearing, even the cost of dry cleaning often still makes an item worth buying.

Portland has some of the most amazing thrift stores available, including the Habitat for Humanity Restore which is great for many items but especially for home improvement supplies. Another great thrift store find in Portland is The Estate Store on MLK, where you can find some amazing art. Most of their goods are very nice and a little higher priced than the typical thrift store but it is worth it for the quality you receive. Also, all proceeds benefit The Community Warehouse.

So when looking for something to do and you only have twenty dollars in your pocket, why not check out a few of the thrift stores in town and see if you can find your treasure.
