Macklemore and Ryan Lewis dominate Rap categories at Grammy Awards

The 56th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by LL Cool J, took place on Sunday and there was plenty of intrigue that coincided with the night’s events. The biggest uproar came from Kendrick Lamar being shut out of all seven categories that he was nominated in. In other words, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were the big winners.

The Seattle duo won three of the four Rap categories, including “Best Rap Album.” They also won Best New Artist for their release of The Heist. While that could have been the highlight of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ night, it undoubtedly came during their rendition of ‘Same Love.’

The performance and 33 weddings definitely provided some mixed emotions on Twitter and throughout social media. Some were very pleased with the outcome, while many felt it was more contrived.

Daft Punk won the biggest award of the night. Random Access Memories won album of the year, and their hit single "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams won record of the year.

Beyonce, her chair, and Jay-Z opened up the night with "Drunk In Love" and it set the mood of the night. Jay-Z ended up winning Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Justin Timberlake for "Holy Grail."

There were quite a few other performances that stood out. The Chicago and Robin Thicke performance moved the meter. If you didn’t catch it live it’s definitely one worth watching.

The Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragon’s collaboration was off the charts. Although Kendrick didn’t win an award, he stole the show with a powerful performance. Still, you can’t help but wonder if he’ll ever win a Grammy.
